Concrete Price Index

Each price starts at a published national average from a primary source, then gets carried forward month to month using the matching US Bureau of Labor Statistics Producer Price Index. Every recalculation runs from the original anchor, never from last month's result, so small errors can't compound and walk the series away from the published figure.

• Concrete, anchored to the NRMCA (National Ready Mixed Concrete Association) national weighted-average ready-mix price ($179.89/yd³, 2024), tracked with BLS series PCU327320327320.
• Crushed stone, anchored to the USGS (U.S. Geological Survey) Mineral Commodity Summaries, national average crushed stone price ($15.88/ton, 2024), tracked with BLS series WPU1321.

Updates run automatically each month once BLS publishes. Any update that would move a price more than 10% in a single month gets rejected instead, on the assumption that a jump that size is a bad API response and not a real move. Better a stale number than a wrong number presented as fact.

One caveat, stated plainly: these are national averages, and real quotes vary a lot by region. Coastal and high-demand metros commonly sit well above the national figure, and delivery distance, load size, mix design, and short load fees all push it around. Treat this as a baseline to sanity-check a quote against, not as the quote.
