Gravel Prices per Ton and Cubic Yard
Crushed stone averages about $18.13 per ton at the quarry nationally, or about $24.48 per cubic yard (August 2026, the USGS 2024 average adjusted by the BLS producer price index). That is a producer price. Homeowners pay more because of yard markup, small-load fees and delivery. One Connecticut yard charges $21.50 per ton picked up and $27.50 per ton delivered on a full 20-ton load.

Quarry price vs what you pay
The national figure is what producers receive, averaged over large volumes sold mostly for roads and concrete. Yards and price guides charge more for small orders. Bove Brothers' $21.50 per ton for 3/4" crushed stone picked up is $3.37 (19%) above the quarry price, and HelloGravel's $30 to $60 for driveway gravel is 1.7 to 3.3 times it.

Bove Brothers' delivered prices assume full 20-ton triaxle loads; smaller loads pay a short load fee, and trips over a one-hour round trip cost extra. HelloGravel and Western Materials both put delivery at $50 to $150 (HelloGravel for trips within 20 miles). HelloGravel's delivered prices are per ton with delivery included. On a larger load, its own picked-up range plus one delivery fee works out lower: 10 tons at $30 to $60 plus a $50 to $150 fee is $35 to $75 per ton. Pea gravel and river rock have retail prices only, because there is no national producer figure here for decorative stone.
Gravel price per ton vs per cubic yard
Multiply a price per ton by 1.35, the tons in a cubic yard of crushed stone, to get the price per yard. Pea gravel and sand weigh a little differently, so if your supplier sells by the yard, ask what weight per yard they use.

Tons are figured at 1.35tons per cubic yard and priced at the quarry price and at HelloGravel's $30 to $60 per ton retail range, before delivery. Base preparation, edging and labor are extra. Gravel price history, 2019 to 2026
The quarry price of crushed stone is up about 63% since January 2019, from an estimated $11.11 to $18.13 per ton. The 2024 figure is the USGS estimate. Earlier months are that figure scaled backward by the BLS index, so they are calculated, not observed prices.

Full years show the average of the twelve monthly values, compared with the prior year's average. The current year is not finished, so it shows the latest month and compares it with the same month a year earlier. Years before 2024 are estimates back-calculated from BLS series WPU1321. The CSV has every monthly value from January 2019 to August 2026, in US dollars per short ton at the quarry.
How the quarry price is calculated
The anchor is the USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2025 chapter on crushed stone, which gives the 2024 average unit value of crushed stone sold or used by producers as $17.50 per metric ton (an estimate). Converted to short tons (× 0.9072), that is $15.88 per ton.
Each month that figure is multiplied by the latest value of BLS producer price index WPU1321 (BLS Producer Price Index by Commodity: Construction Sand, Gravel and Crushed Stone, also on FRED) over its 2024 average. Each update starts from the original anchor, so errors do not compound.
The result is a national producer price. It covers stone of every size and grade, mostly sold by the thousands of tons, and it does not include retail markup, delivery or local variation. It is useful for tracking the direction of the market and as a floor when reading a quote.
Frequently asked questions
At the quarry, crushed stone averages $18.13 per ton nationally (August 2026, the USGS 2024 average carried forward with the BLS producer price index). That is what producers receive, not what a homeowner pays. Retail prices are higher. Bove Brothers in Connecticut charges $21.50 per ton for 3/4" crushed stone picked up, HelloGravel lists standard driveway gravel at $30 to $60 per ton before delivery, and Western Materials lists crush and run at $35 to $50 per ton.
A full 20-ton load costs $363 at the national quarry price, or $550 at Bove Brothers' delivered price of $27.50 per ton for 3/4" crushed stone. Bove's delivered price assumes a full 20-ton triaxle load; smaller loads add a short load fee. For other suppliers, add a delivery fee to the stone price: HelloGravel and Western Materials both put local delivery at $50 to $150.
Processed gravel, crusher run and recycled material are usually cheaper than washed stone. At Bove Brothers, 3/4" processed gravel is $18.00 per ton picked up against $21.50 for 3/4" crushed stone, and 3/4" crushed asphalt is $17.50. HelloGravel says recycled concrete costs $10 to $20 per ton less than new crushed stone.
This page has no current shelf price for bagged gravel. A 50 lb bag is 0.025 tons, or about $0.45 of stone at the national quarry price of $18.13 per ton. Bags sell for many times that because the price includes packaging, freight and the store's margin.
Neither is cheaper once you convert. Crushed stone weighs about 1.35 tons per cubic yard, so multiply a price per ton by 1.35 to get the price per yard. The $18.13 quarry price works out to $24.48 per yard. When two suppliers quote in different units, convert one before comparing.
HelloGravel says local suppliers typically charge $50 to $150 for delivery within 20 miles and up to $300 or more for longer trips. Western Materials gives the same $50 to $150 range, depending on distance. Bove Brothers prices delivery per ton instead: its delivered price is $6 per ton more than pick-up on 20-ton loads, plus a charge for trips over a one-hour round trip.
The two numbers measure different sales. The USGS figure is the average value of crushed stone sold or used by producers, mostly in large quantities for road building and concrete. A homeowner buying a few tons from a landscape yard also pays the yard's markup, small-order pricing and delivery. The national figure shows which way prices are moving; a local quote is what to budget with.
